Valentine’s Day, and many other events. People in the United States send get-well
cards to people who are ill, and they even send cards to express friendship. However,
with the exception of Christmas (Season’s Greetings/New Year) cards, you should
know people well or see them often before sending them a card or buying them a gift.
The only time it is appropriate to give a gift to someone you don’t know well is if you
are invited to a party to celebrated a birthday or an anniversary. Some businesspeople
send cards to clients to maintain goodwill. Some people rarely send cards.
