There are three stages in creating an essay: planning, writing, and revising.
Your writing must make an impression. Your writing must be clear, coherent, and cor-
rect.
The first thing to do is read the essay topic carefully .To write a good essay, you
must know what the topic asks you to do. You should know how to address the writing
task. You must write on the topic. So, pay attention to the task.
The most common essay types are agreeing or disagreeing, stating a preference,
giving an explanation and making an argument.
Agreeing or disagreeing
In this essay, you must state an opinion and defend your point of view. Give rea-
sons for your thinking.

Why or why not?
Stating a preference
In this essay, you must discuss both sides of an issue. Compare and contrast both
sides or give the pros and cons, the advantages or disadvantages of something. State
your personal preference and give reasons to support your choice.
