Anna from London
“I have a phone but I’m really careful about switching it off when I’m in public
places. I hate having to listen to other people’s conversations on the train and on
the bus. I try not to listen but it’s impossible when people speak loudly. The whole
mobile phone culture is out of control and we shouldn’t accept it. It’s noise
pollution.”

Role-play the radio program. One of the group is a radio presenter. The
others are going to phone in to the radio programme and give your point of
view. The radio presenter makes his comments. Speak about the following:
· mobile phones in your life
· mobile phones in public places
21 You are invited to take part in a reality show during which you and
some more people will have to spend three months on an uninhabited
island. You are allowed to take some clothes and any five gadgets or
machines. In small groups for 5 minutes decide what gadgets or machines
you will take with you and how you will use them. Report to the class.
WRITING
22 People who cannot speak can now type messages on a computer,
and a device called a ‘voice synthesizer’ speaks their words. People with
many other disabilities – blindness, deafness, lack of mobility – are helped
by computers. Describe a new device which would help a disabled person
using no more than 120-150 words.
