The advantage of having enough RAM is that you avoid swapping. When
Windows doesn’t have any more free RAM, it begins to artificially increase the
amount of RAM using a swap file. The swap file is stored on the hard disk, and
leads to a much slower performance than if there was sufficient RAM in the PC.
If you are not sure which CPU your PC uses, you can see it on the screen, shortly
after you switch on your PC.

2 Read the information below and then listen to four advertisements from
a radio program about computers. Number these system utilities in the
order in which you here them.

System utilities are small programs that improve the system performance and
help users take advantage of the computer’s capabilities. They are often desk
accessories that can be called up while you are working on another application.
They can also be INITs, i.e. system extensions which are activated when you turn
on the computer, control devices which you adjust in the control panel, or even
stand alone programs which run when you need them. Utilities are available for
back up, file search, virus protection, disaster recovery and so on.
