10.1 Writing for work and pleasure.
10.1.1 Remember!
- Always think about who you're writing to and why you're writing so that you
use the correct formal or informal style.
- Organise the information clearly into paragraphs and use correct spelling and
punctuation.
- It is very important to avoid unnecessary repetitions when writing your essay
or composition.
10.1.2 Making the message clear
Harvey got into serious trouble and decided to leave England as quickly as
possible. After he left the country, he wrote a lot of letters and e-mails. Read the e-
mail he sent to Pete and answer questions 1-4.
Dear pete
Just a quick note. I'm really sorry I couldn't make it to your house-warming party
I hope it went well and you arent too annoyed with me for not coming. The thing is,
Ive had a bit of a problem. A few weeks ago I borrowed a lot of money from the
company acount. I was going to return it, but one thing led to another and I lost the
money. My boss found out and he threatened too call the police if I didn't give it back
imediately. I really panicked and decided to get out of london fast. Susie and I flew to
Hong Kong on Wednesday and were staying in her brothers flat at the moment. I
think we're going to be here for a while. Can I possibly ask you a favour We're
getting desperate for money and I need you to sell my computer hi-fi and car for me.
I'll write again soon and let you know were to send the money. Thanks for your help.
