Yuri N Radayev was born in Samara, Russia, on February 10, 1962.
He is a Mechanical Engineering graduate (1984) of Samara State Univer-
sity. After serving in the USSR Air Forces he joined (1986) the Laboratory of
Viscoelastic Solids of the Institute for Problems in Mechanics of the Russian
Academy of Science. In 1989 he graduated from the Institute for Problems in
Mechanics of the Russian Academy of Science and received Ph. D. in Applied
Mechanics from the Russian Academy of Science. Since then he has been work-
ing in Samara State University first as Assistant Prof. at Department of Solid
Mechanics (1989–1995) and later as Associate Prof. at the same Department
(1995–2000). He was also working as a visiting researcher at Department of
Mechanical Engineering, Nagoya University (1993–1995) and Laboratoire de
Modelisation en Mecanique, Universite Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI)/CNRS
(1999–2000). In 2000 he received the Doctor of Science (Phys.&Math.) Degree
from the Russian Academy of Science for his disseratation work ”Continuum
Models of the Material Damage”. He is the Head of Department of Continuum
Mechanics (since 2002) and Prof. of the same Department (since 2000).
The main area of his research is continuum mechanics and thermodynamics,
the mathematical theory of plasticity, fracture and damage of materials. He has
published nearly a hundred articles and books (both research and educational)
on the subject.
