49 To use the C++BuilderX Integrated Development Environment (IDE) sup-
plied with this book, you need to use a Microsoft Windows operating system. 50 If
you are not going to be working in this environment, this section will not apply to
you. 51 You will need to find a compiler for your operating system. 52 You will need
to check the documentation for your operating system or check with the company that
sells it for more information on available compilers.
53 If you are working in Windows, then proceed with the installation of the
Borland C++ compiler and IDE, which is the graphical interface you will use for the
remainder of the book. 54 You might also see this graphical interface referred to as
the Borland Compiler, Borland C++BuilderX, C++BuilderX, or C++BuilderX IDE.
55 They are all the same.
56 Installing from CD
57 Insert the CD and it should run automatically. 58 If not, you can start it
manually by running install.exe from the CD. 59 The files install.html or readme.txt
will provide additional information customized to the latest release of this tool. 60
Once the install is running, you should follow these steps:
61 1. Click Next.
62 2. Accept the terms of the license agreement.
63 3. Click Next (I recommend that you allow the default).
64 4. Select Full Install Set, to be installed by clicking Next.
65 5. Select the location for installation (the default may be fine for you) and
click Next.
66 6. Select location for the icons (again, the default should be good) and
click Next.
67 7. Finally click Install.
68 Then you must wait until you get the Setup Complete window.
69 You will need to register your copy. 70 Borland will send you a file that
contains a key that must be stored in the same directory as the software install (follow
the directions they send, it is straightforward). 71 You have now installed the
C++BuilderX IDE, but need to configure it in order to make it easier to use.
