Conclusion
This study drew a comparison between the two types of posts made of two
different materials (stainless steel and fibre on Bisphenol A-Glycidyl
Methacrylate (Bis-GMA) matrix). It has been shown that stress concentrations on
the post ⁄ dentin interface on the palatine side of the tooth root presented
significant variations for different post materials. Actually, post materials had a
big impact on the stress concentrations. Stainless steel posts presented the highest
level of stress concentration, followed by Bis-GMA posts.
The experiments which had been carried out confirmed that a reconstructed
tooth was subject to most stress in the cervical region.
The role of the post in providing reinforcement has been demonstrated. The
absence of a ferrule has been found to be the most significant contributory factor
in increasing the risk of the fracture regardless of the type of the core material.
