thick / dense cloud = a lot of cloud

fog (n. U) - thick cloudy air near the ground, which is very difficult to see
through:
- Watch out for patches of fog in low-lying areas.

- Dense fog is making driving conditions difficult on many roads.
the fog lifts / clears = it goes away

mist (n. U) - wet light cloud near the ground, which is difficult to see through
clearly:
- The mist along the valley had gone by 10 o’clock.
misty (adj.)
- It may be misty in the east in the morning.

- It was so windy that I could hardly walk straight.
