“What do I have to do?”
Pre-listening task
1. You will here three conversations, where it is explained how to operate the
following equipment:
a) a fax machine
b) an alarm-clock
c) a photocopier.
2. You will come across the following vocabulary:
to indicate in the digital display
to put a document face up (down)
e. g. Put the document face down and indicate in the digital display how many
copies you want.
to feed a paper into the slot
to dial a number
e. g. Feed the paper into the slot and dial the number after that.
to (dis)connect
e.g. Just wait for the line to disconnect.
mode
e. g. If you press this key the computer will go into its graphics mode (the sys-
tem of operating in which pictures are produced).
Listening
Listen to the conversations and put the names of the equipment from above in
the correct succession.
Listen and take notes. Explain to a partner how to operate the equipment in your
own words, using the active vocabulary.
