TASK 97. Divide the following words into 3 groups: Adjectives, Adverbs,
Adj./Adv.
deep, unfriendly, simply, elderly, free, incredibly, monthly, easy, best, incor-
rectly, long, lively, ugly, unjustly, much, cowardly, low, soon, recent, re-
cently, right, fast, well, good, most, terrible, unnecessary, heavy, busy, late,
lovely, badly, airmail, safely, impolitely, unbelievably.
NB! You use ADJECTIVES, not adverbs, after LINK VERBS like be, and
also
become, get, grow, go, turn:
She turned
pale;
Seem, appear, look, feel, taste, smell, sound:
He looked
calm; She felt cold;
Stay, remain, and some others.
Do NOT confuse link verbs with lexical verbs with denote actions and take
adverbs:
He turned
angrily to the man behind him.
He looked
calmly at the angry crowd.
She was
cautiously feeling her way in the dark.
TASK 98. Adjective or adverb? Fill in the correct form. Translate into Russian.
1. Your perfume smells…(beautiful).
2. Don’t go up that ladder. It doesn’t look…(safe).
