My Future Profession
Finishing school is the beginning of independent life for millions of school
leavers. Many roads are open before them: vocational and technical schools, institutes
and universities. But it is not an easy thing to choose a profession out of more than
2,000 existing in the world. Some pupils do this still at the industrial training centers,
some follow the advice of their parents, others can't decide even after leaving school.
As for me I made my choice long ago. I want to become an engineer. My
choice of this occupation didn't come in a sudden flash. During all my school years
exact sciences were my favorite subjects. I understand that reading books helps
people in self-education and in solving different life problems.
My parents are also engineers and I know that engineering is a very specific
and difficult job. It shouldn't be taken lightly. An engineer is a person who is learning
all his life.
An engineer must foresee the development of technology . It's not as easy as it
may seem at first. But I think that interest in technique combined with the knowledge
I'll get at University will be quite enough to succeed in my work.
Engineers must start on the road of accelerating socio-economic development
of the country. The main factors of development of our country are scientific and
technological progress and a fundamental transformation of society's productive
forces. The key to the tremendous tasks facing us is raising the productivity of labor.
To raise the productivity of labor an engineer must apply the achievements of
scientific and technological progress, which in its turn should be accelerated. On the
basis of this we must carry out the technical reconstruction of our economy.
At this turning point in the life of our country we have chosen the profession of
an engineer. We realize perfectly well the great responsibility that will be on our
shoulders when we graduate from University. We shall be organizers of production,
the effectiveness of which to a great extent will depend on us. To a great extent when
we come to factories.
Broad development of advanced production methods is one of the most
important lines of scientific and technological progress. And we are the people who
will introduce these methods into production process. We will take an active part not
only in practical application of new technology and techniques, but in research and
development of them as well. An engineer is a symbol of progress, development and
scientific knowledge.
Though it is impossible to know everything, it is possible on the basis of deep
knowledge of fundamental principles of science to develop one's abilities and skills
further. At the University we will acquire this knowledge and basic skills and then we
will enrich our know-how by constant learning, being aware of the latest
achievements of science and engineering in our country and abroad. By the way, that
is where the knowledge of English will come in handy.
