It's the easiest to use can when something is permitted:

May (may not) is used for permission, too, only it sounds more formally.

CONDITIONALS (IF SENTENCES)
Conditional sentences. What are they like?
Conditional sentences imply that something is the consequence of, or depends
on something else:
