Tantalum is both hard and flexible. As a matter of fact, it is so
flexible that it can be easily drawn out into the finest wire.
Tantalum resists corrosion. That is why it is fit for lining
chemical apparatus.
Besides, it has a most important use in metallurgy. It is good
for making high-quality steels.
Of course, tantalum is still a rare and valuable metal, and so it
cannot be used widely.

2. Why is it difficult to get tantalum in a pure state?
3. Where can tantalum be used?

NIOBIUM
Here is a short story about niobium or columbium. In 1801
Charles Hatchett, an English chemist, analyzed an ore sample
which had been sent to the British Museum from the United
States. He named it columbium after Christopher Columbus.
And the columbium-ore was given the name of columbite.
