Translate the following sentences into Russian.
1. The computer is going to make the ordinary typewriter obsolete. 2. We stayed

and had purchased another shop. 4. The plane crashed and caught fire, and only 12 of
the 140 passengers survived. 5. Who will inherit the house when he dies? 6. Many
types of animals have now vanished from the earth. 7. His illness diminished his
strength. 8. Does electricity convert easily to other forms of power? 9. The city has
spent $US 3 million on upgrading its sports facilities.
Ex. 7. It’s obvious that the words (to) rest – отдых, (отдыхать) and the
rest – остальные, остаток are often mixed up. Copy these words and
memorize their meanings. Translate the sentences into Russian.
1. Don’t use a computer for long periods of time – take a rest occasionally.
2. They have covered twelve hundred miles with only two days’ rest. 3. Why don’t you
have a rest? 4. He lay down and rested, using his coat as a pillow. 5. What are you
going to do with the rest of the money? 6. Many of the residents have already left the
island; the rest are preparing for the typhoon. 7. After the tragic accident he’ll be in a
wheelchair for the rest of his life.
Ex. 8. GRAMMAR REVISION: Infinitives. Replace the attributive clause
by the infinitive as in the models:
