(5) If containers to be transported are too large and don’t comply with the standards
for all-purpose flatcars, specialized flatcars are used. Flat cars have no sides or even floor
covering and are equipped with special devices for fastening freight.
(6) Tank cars are used for transportation of liquid goods, for example oil, oil
products, compressed gasses and others. Tare weight of the tank is 36 tonnes, the volume
of the tank is about 100 cubic metres, the inside diameter is 3,000mm. To fill the liquid the
top part of the tank has two hatches with covers. To prevent damage to the tank from
additional stresses arising when the pressure of the air is in excess of** the permissible
value, the tank should be fitted with a safety valve. The tank is fixed to the frame by its
middle part. There are different types of tank cars depending on the number of axis (four-
or eight-axle tank cars), load capacity and tank volume.
