Task 6. Translate the sentences into Russian.
1. The researchers found that exposure to environmental tobacco smoke was
not significantly associated with death from coronary heart disease or lung
cancer.
2. Active cigarette smoking was confirmed as a strong risk factor for coronary
heart disease, lung cancer, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
3. Breathing in second hand smoke massively increases the risk of lung cancer
and heart disease.
4. Ministers should introduce a ban on smoking in enclosed public places to
protect people working in bars and restaurants from the effects of second
hand smoke.
5. Smoking around children has been linked to an increased likelihood of cot
death, bacterial meningitis, asthma attacks and other breathing problems.
6. It is important that we increase the public’s awareness of the real health risks
to children from second-hand smoke – not merely the discomfort caused by
being in a smoky atmosphere.
7. Tobacco smoke contains over 4000 chemicals in the form of particles and
gases, to then we refer tar, nicotine, benzene and benzopyrene, carbon
monoxide, ammonia, formaldehyde, hydrogen cyanide and acrolein.
8. Young children are very sensitive to cigarette smoke – it can trigger asthma
attacks and cause asthma in children who were previously healthy.
9. Most smokers want to give up and the place they find it hardest to give up is
when you go into a bar. So introducing the nationwide smoking ban will
help people give up.
10. The researchers are calling for a sustained public health campaign to raise
awareness of the link between smoking and blindness, as well as more
commonly know risks such as cancer.
