1.5 Results and Discussion
All the results obtained were recorded on the computer and digitized. There was a
specific sound at the moment of tooth cracking. At the same time the values of the
force and the deformation were being fixed.
A series of experiments were held to compare how the mechanical parameters of
different degrees of coronal tissue loss and restoration with different materials
affected the restoration. Two levels of coronal dentine loss were considered: total
loss (absence of a ferrule) and partial loss of the coronal dentine with 2-mm
surviving dentin walls (presence of a ferrule). Two post materials were chosen,
which were stainless steel and glass fiber. During the experiments the crown of
the tooth received a 30-degree oblique occlusal load. In all the specimens, the
greatest stress was observed in the cervical region.
Firstly, in the group of the specimens that had been restored using stainless
steel posts teeth were fractured with the maximum load of 950 N (Fig. 21). The
