Automatic transmission
The petrol-engined models are optionally available with automatic
transmission. You can select between two driving programmes, using a switch
in the selector-level console; S for standard and E for economy. In position S,
automatic transmission shifts normally, while in position E it changes up at
lower engine speeds. This allows a smoother and more comfort-orientated
driving style. It also reduces noise levels and fuel consumption. The
transmission ratios are selected so that the top speed is achieved in fifth gear.
ABS
The standard ABS system ensures that the car remains steerable during
emergency braking, because however hard you concentrate you can still
suddenly find yourself in a situation where you have to brake sharply. To relieve
difficulty in such a dangerous situation, the electronics brakes too. Sensors are
incorporated on the front wheels and the rear axle, and they continually inform a
central control unit about the speed of the wheels. If a critical point is reached,
the brakes are repeatedly released for fractions of a second by the control unit, to
prevent wheels from locking. ABS is the part of the standard equipment in the
G-series.
ASD
The optionally available automatic locking differential, ASD, improves moving
off on a surface, which is slippery on one side. As the lock is released by
braking, the ABS function remains unimpaired. A definite advantage of this
