always in the right moment, without diverting the attention of the driver. When
the ASD is activated, a function indicator in the speedometer lights up to inform
the driver.
Braking system
Safe deceleration is provided by the hydraulic dual-circuit braking system
with large disc brakes. Optimal cooling-air fed to the brake discs ensures a long
service life. This reduced the danger of the brake fake due to overheating, for
instance when applying the brakes continuously on steep descents. Additional
safety is provided by the wear indicator for the front brake pads. A warning light
in the instrument cluster comes on when brake pad wear exceeds a certain limit
or when the brake fluid in the expansion tank drops below a specified level.
ASR
Acceleration skid control, ASR, prevents spinning of the driven during
acceleration. When one of the wheels threatens to lose grip, the engine power is
cut back and the wheel in question is also braked until it regains its grip.
Acceleration skid control system thus takes effect immediately. It is optionally
available for the G 500 with automatic transmission.
