Despite the generous increases in dimension, the new Altimas are substantially
stiffer than their predecessors (170 percent stiffer, says Nissan), and this is
evident in their taut and quiet road going demeanor. The 103-cubic-foot interior
offers a 1.3-inch front-headroom improvement and a 1.9-inch legroom
improvement.
And the new interior was well received, particularly the dash design, which
features a contrasting-texture waterfall-shaped center console and a three-hole
instrument panel with highly legible orange-backlit dials. Three so-called
atmospheres are available: Charcoal, Blond, and Frost, along with, uh, “wood
tone” trim. A premium Bose sound system is an option.

The Introduction
The electric car Filo was designed by the Italian company Bertone. The Filo is
considered to be a car of the future. The Filo has no steering wheel and no
pedals. It’s a concept car and its technology promotes “drive by wire”. The
driver is sitting on a wide red sofa, keeping an eye on three TV monitors that
show what’s going on behind him. Driving the Filo is a case of life imitating
virtual reality. All the controls are at your fingertips. Tiny inputs produce big
results. You change gears by pressing buttons on the control column marked
«+» and «-». The clutch is automatic. The secret of “drive-by-wire” system is
not only in using complicated computer programs, but also in developing smart
electromechanical actuators. The electromechanical SKF system is simpler than
existing hydraulic arrangements. The Filo is equipped with the “dry” robotic
clutch and gearshift. It has fully electric brakes. The Filo needs 42 volts to keep
the electrical components down to a reasonable size and there must be a vehicle
data network interfacing all the major control system.
