Read the following descriptions of where each building is and draw a part of a
town map.
a. The hotel is opposite the station.
b. The bank is on the corner of Lower Road and Hill Road. It is next to the
chemist's.
c. The supermarket is between the baker's and the greengrocer's.
d. There is a bus stop in front of the flower shop.
e. There are two pubs. The Red Lion is in Station Road, opposite the flower
shop near the railway bridge, and the Old Shepherd is in Church Street, behind
the school.
Work in pairs. Think of some other places which could be well situated in this
part of the town, draw them on your map and try to explain where the
building you’ve drawn is. Use the prepositions from exercise 1.
Listening
1.You will hear a telephone conversation between Charles and Bob, the latter is
giving directions to get to Harpole. Listen and take notes. Compare your notes.
Here is a list of prepositions of movement:
along up down towards under over
through out of to across
This is the way to drive to Harpole. Put the correct preposition into the gaps.
