            Listen to the conversation and say why the policeman wants to proceed with
               the enquiries.
            Listen to the dialogue for the second time and try to remember and write
               down as many words and expressions on the topic “Crime and punish-
               ment” as you can.
            Say whether the following statements are true or false:
                   Someone committed a murder next door to a suspect two nights ago.
                   According to the suspect’s words he heard nothing.
                   Fortunately the suspected man saw something unusual that night.
                   That night the suspect was cooking his supper.
                   Someone fired ten shots with a gun that night.
                   The answers of the enquired man sound suspicious to the policeman.

          Pre-listening task
          1. Look at the illustrations. Write two adjectives which you think describe the
             attitude or feeling of each person illustrated, e. g. disgruntled, bored.
          2. Work with a partner and compare your adjectives. Discuss how the people
             in the illustrations are showing their attitudes and feelings. Agree together
             on three adjectives for each illustration.
