I. 1) PRACTISE READING SOME USEFUL EXPRESSIONS:
to go through customs - проходить через таможню
to pay duty - платить пошлину
to have (got) anything dutiable ( liable to duty; to declare) - иметь что-либо, подлежащее
обложению таможенной пошлиной (для внесения в декларацию)
to be duty-free - не облагаться пошлиной
customs officer - служащий таможни
to fill in an entry ( exit) declaration - заполнить
декларацию о въезде (выезде)
to follow the customs instructions - следовать таможенным инструкциям

I. READ AND TRANSLATE THE DIALOGUES AND SOME INFORMATION TO THEM. ACT
THE DIALOGUES OUT:
Every country has its own customs legislation¹, and if you are going abroad you are supposed to learn
the rules of leaving and entering the foreign state. To be on the safe side, you should know what is
allowed or prohibited to be brought in or taken out.
When the passenger enters or leaves the country, he must fill in an entry or exit declaration which is to
be produced to the customs officer. The passenger is to fill in his name, citizenship, country of
residence, permanent address, purpose and duration of his visit² in block letters.
I.
Smith: Well, we've nearly crossed the Channel. I can see the English coast already, can you?
Brown: Yes, just.
