       To train the young people to operate computers the new subject "Basic
Information Science and Computing Machines" is introduced at Russian schools.
This training arouses the pupil's interest in studies and develops their intelligence.
Working with the computer the pupils prepare training programs for mathematics,
physics, chemistry and biology classes. They are taught to compute on the
machines and assemble chips. School computers are used not only for pupils to
study science, but also for examination purposes.
      The, use of computers in teaching appears to be very popular with US
universities. Several American universities offer computer-taught courses,
primarily in mathematical and scientific subjects. Stanford University has for years
offered courses in logic and probability theory3, some of which are taught entirely
by computers. By now computers have been created that synthesize speech. That
has given them great flexibility. The computerised course in language training
requires no previous experience. The student follows written instructions on how to
begin operating the keyboard. Then the computer speaks to the student through the
headphones4. The computer congratulates the student if the response is correct, but
requires him to repeat the exercise if it is wrong. The student can also ask the
computer to return to the background material. Contact with the machine increases
the students' interest in learning makes them more serious about studying new
subjects.
