“When in Rome, do as the Romans do”. This is an English proverb (wise old
saying). It means that travelers should accept the customs of the place they
are visiting. Imagine that you are a Native American of the plains. In your
travels, you wander far into the Southwest. There, you meet people who are
very different from you. These are Native Americans of the Pueblo group.
What do you see that is new or unusual? What customs or familiar things of
your own culture are absent here? If you stayed among the Pueblo people,
how would your life change?
