TECHNICAL REVOLUTION
My mother was my role-model. She was an absent-minded
doctor, and I'll never forget 1_________ her enormous old-
fashioned computer when I was still a 2__________. So,
3___________ when I had my first computer I thought it was
brilliant. I really can't imagine how anyone could manage
without technology nowadays. It's strange but everybody
said that new technology would put an end to traditional
4_____________ communications. I've sent my friends
more emails than I ever sent them letters. The future of
technology may be 5____________, but I see it in two ways.
Firstly, I think that information about all of us will be kept on
some kind of central database, which I suppose is a bit
6______________. There is always a conflict between
information and personal 7_____________. Secondly, we will
come to rely on PCs more and more and treat them as part of
the family.

Gameboys Stay in to Play
Like many of 13 year olds my son is a computer games hermit,
emerging only to be fed and watered. Recently, to reassure me that he
was not addict, he had volunteered not to touch a computer for a
week. As I kept a close eye on him for signs of cold turkey but, apart
from the fact that he recorded at least the music of his favourite
games, so that he could listen to them on his walkman, then there was
no one.
On the other hand both his sisters and I suffered as his
boredom increased. Suddenly he was well under our feet, muttering
obscenities and flicking at TV channels in the middle of our favourite
programmes. What he seemed to have been lost was the sense that
there was not anything worthwhile to do other than indulge in the
challenge of computer games.
It may take another 10 years or so before society really knows
what the mental and physical effects of computer games on the
young.
