sample that is clamped by a Fibrocomb.
The prepared Fibrocomb is placed into the comb track. Here the sample beard is
automatically brushed. Brushing is for removing loose fibers and cleaning and aligning the
remaining fibers. When the brushing is complete, a mechanical finger slides the
Fibrocomb into the comb holder that faces the fixed lens and jaw system.
The instrument optically scans the sample to determine length. Then the jaws clamp
on the fibers and the rear jaw retracts until the sample is broken. The microprocessor
calculates strength and elongation.

As tests are competed for each sample, a printer produces a hard copy of the results.
