AILURES AND COLLAPSES OF CONSTRUCTIONAL WORKS
The main reasons causing the failures and collapses of the constructional works can
be divided into three groups:
1. Natural disasters (earthquakes, hurricanes, floods and avalanches).
2. Imperfection of the engineering and technical calculations of the structures (the
lack of knowledge about true behavior of the structure and the forces acting on the struc-
ture).
3. Ignorance and violation of the constructional, operational and structural safety.
Let’s consider some of the well-known cases of failures and collapses of the con-
structional works caused by different reasons.
