Task 5. Translate the sentences from English.
1. Heavy drinkers can blame their genes for their propensity to hit the
bottle, research has suggested.
2. In general, attempts to use gene therapy in a wide variety of medical fields
have had only limited success so far. This is because it has proved difficult
to get the therapy to the cells, which need it.
3. As identical twins share all their genes while non-identical twins share 50 %
but still have the same family and prenatal background, the differences
between them can be used to estimate the relative contributions of genes and
the environment.
4. The problem, called severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) is caused
by a single mutated gene, and meant that he had to live in sterile conditions
or risk picking up a life-threatening infection.
5. The gene therapy could unlock cancer resistance. If the research is
successful, if should help the scientists tackle some of the most stubborn,
radiotherapy-resistant forms of the disease.
