4) Although molecular compounds of mononitro-benzenes are practically unknown,
the substances (I) and (II), in which the nitro group is reinforced by other electron-
attracting groups, do yield such complexes.
5) Ferrocene does behave as an antiknock agent in gasoline, but oxide production
limits its utility.
6) The list does not include transient intermediates formed in the Wurtz reaction, nor
does it include the intermediates of the malonic ester of acetoacetic ester syntheses
and related reactions.
7) In each instance, the PI fraction had a lower glucosamine to galactosamine ratio
than did the original blood group substance indicating the preferential removal of
glucosamine under these conditions.
8) These statements about the course of second order reactions, which proceed in
many steps, as the various polycondensations obviously do — can be summarized as
follows.
9) Planck and Einstein have shown that when light reacts with matter it does so as if
it were composed of discrete particles known as corpuscles or photons.
10) They also demonstrated that under a given set of conditions the hydrochloric
acid-catalyzed reaction yielded the same ratio of o- to p-chloroacetanilide as did the
reaction of acetanilide with chlorine.
11) It is difficult to understand, why the halide or cyanide ions do not directly attack
the diazonium cation rather than coordinating with the cuprous salt as an intermediate
step.

2.2.1 Текст “Belgium”
Prehistory and antiquity (100,000 B.C. - 400 A.D.)
Belgian history began some hundred thousand years ago with the arrival of
the Neanderthal man. He hunted and protected himself with animal skins. Around
20,000 years ago, modern man entered Belgium. In the Mesolithic period (from 9000
B.C.) man combined hunting with gathering. He perfected his tools. Around 2600
B.C. (Neolithic period) agriculture appeared in the regions of Belgium. There were
also mining activities at Spinners in the province of Hainault. At the same time
megalithic monuments were erected in the province of Luxembourg.
The Bronze Age came rather late to Belgium (1600 B.C.). The Iron Age
started around the VIIIth century B.C. Before the Romans conquered the region in 57
B.C., Belgium was populated by the Celts. They built defensive fortresses and
maintained good relations with the Mediterranean world.
