Researching your Market
The root of all planning selling and organizing is information. The more you
have, the more you'll be able to sell your product or service. Marketing is nothing
more complicated than logic; it is the logical way to reach your customer or cli-
ent. Just as market analysis helped direct the development of your original busi-
ness concept and advertising it is also the key to the future sales activities of your
company.
Understanding your market is not just knowing who your customers are; you
have to know their motivations as well. The way you position your business in
the marketplace will be affected by geographic, economic, demographic and so-
cial trends.
Now look at the trends for the 1990s. The home health care industry and
home services are expected to soar. Researching trends is a matter of keeping
your eyes and ears open. Advertising agencies spend billions every year analys-
