LESSON VI
SIGHTSEEING
I. READ AND TRANSLATE THE DIALOGUES. ACT THEM OUT:
I.
WE’VE BEEN WALKING ROUND THE CITY OF LONDON
Mr Ivanov: Good afternoon, Mr Smith. I'm sorry I've kept you waiting.
Mr Smith: That's all right. Though I have been wondering what's happened to you.
Mr Ivanov: A friend from Moscow is over here on a short visit. He's been attending a conference here
and today I've been showing him round.
Mr Smith: Oh, have you? Where have you taken him?
Mr Ivanov: We've been walking round the City and he insisted on climbing to the top of the
Monument.
Mr Smith: Oh, you'll be stiff¹ tomorrow. There are over three hundred steps, aren't there?
Mr Ivanov: Well, there are three hundred and forty-five, to be exact. But still, there's a marvellous
view when you do get to the top.
Mr Smith: Oh, yes, it is wonderful. On a clear day you can see for miles.
Mr Ivanov: We've also visited the Tate Gallery.
Mr Smith: Oh, and I haven't been there yet.
Mr Ivanov: Would you like me to take you there one of these days?
Mr Smith: That's very kind of you. Thank you. And now you've earned a good rest after all that
sightseeing.
Mr Ivanov: I certainly have. I've been walking round for over three hours.

(In New York)
A: By the way, what are your plans for tomorrow morning?
B: Nothing special.
A: Would you like to take a walking tour of the city?
B: Thanks. I'd love to. What will we start with?
A: Let's start with Rockfeller Center. We'll get there by subway and take a one hour walking tour.
B: Is the Museum of Modern Art far from there?
A: It's only a few blocks north. We'll be able to visit it too.

SIGHTSEEING
(In Moscow)
Ann: What should I see first, Nina?
Nina: You should start with the Kremlin and Red Square. I'll stop by and pick you up at your hotel
tomorrow morning. Will nine o'clock be all right?
Ann: Yes, it suits me fine. Will we see St.Basil's Cathedral tomorrow?
Nina: Sure. It's on Red Square.
