Knowing of your vast experience in environmental economics,
we are writing to ask you to be our guest speaker at a seminar to
be held in Brussels on 1 October. We would be very pleased if
you could give a talk of about one hour, and be kind enough to
answer questions afterwards.
We hope that you will be able to join us at this seminar and give
us the benefit of your experience.
Yours sincerely
Letter B
Dear Sir
Concerning your claim of Paradise 4 Recorder under Contract
67/48 we wish to inform you that we have now received a letter
from Paradise Electronics. They have studied you claim and
come to the conclusion that the faulty conditions complained of
are the result of faulty setting up procedure and not defects in
the instrument.
They have altogether prepared two copies of a revised setting
and test procedure for use by you and your customers and
request that they make a further check on the instrument in
accordance with these instructions.
If you still have problems with the Recorder when this has been
done please report them in detail.
Our Mr G. Cadberry will deliver the copies of the revised setting
and test procedure when he visits Moscow on 16 May, and we
sincerely trust that we will be able to resolve the difficulties with
this instrument.
We wish to assure you that it I our intention to persist in this
matter until you and your customers are satisfied.
Yours faithfully
After you find and underline the key sentences think of a
possible heading to the whole text. Try to convey the main ideas
of the letter in your own words. Imagine that you are reporting
to your boss. He does not want any unnecessary details.
Use your own summary as the basis for your written one. When
writing a summary, remember to mention only the most
important ideas.
Read the following letter and its summary.
Dear Sir
Contract No. 38/176
We acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 25
th
December,
20… requesting a delay in delivery from ten to twelve months of
the equipment being supplied for Complex “A”. It is noted that
this matter was raised during meetings in Moscow and
Manchester earlier this year as indicated in the respective
Protocols.
We confirm that we can delay the delivery of all equipment by a
period of ten / twelve months from the dates stipulated in the
Contract.
However, to enable us to sensibly give you a detailed answer on
the overall effects to altering the dates of supply we would like
tom know the following:
a) Will the factory building where the plant is to be installed
be exactly the same as the one for which we have
information at present? For example, the column bases,
column centres, arrangement of the existing plant, etc.?
b) Will the materials and methods of operating the
equipment be identical to those already agreed upon?
When we have your information we will quickly summarise the
best arrangements we can make to minimise any extra costs and
problems. We shall then send you our proposal of the revised
delivery dates and other relevant conditions for consideration.
