memory unit. The result of the data processing goes to the output unit and appears
either on a magnetic tape or a disk. During the process of calculations the computer
"asks" the memory unit for the instructions or for the results of the calculations that
must have already been made. The printer then prints the report, on paper, or the
information appears on a television-like screen called computer display. The
operator sits at the control console and services the whole system.
