University never miss an opportunity possibility to visit our sports hall, where they
go in for different kinds of sport.
The laboratories of our Universities are equipped with modern machinery. The
training of future engineers is carried out on the basis of the latest achievements of
science and technique.
There is an Information Technology Computer Centre with branches at all
faculties. Other facilities include a TV Laboratory, a Print Shop, and a Laboratory of
Automated Management Systems.
The USTU now uses over 450 IBM PC compatible personal computers most
of which are installed in 28 special class rooms to train students in information
technologies on MS DOS platform. There are also class rooms for the study of
CAD/CAM technologies and teach subjects using multimedia technologies.
During the first 2 years students study subjects common to all faculties of a
technical University: physics, mathematics, chemistry, Russian History, a foreign
language and others.
As for the upper years, the curriculum includes mechanics, theoretical
metallurgy, electrical engineering, hydraulics and other subjects.
During the course of study students have different kinds of industrial training
under the guidance of supervisors, who take students around shops and acquaint
them with various processes of all phases of operation.
In the evening part-time and extra-mural students attend lectures, seminars and
do lab work in different subjects. The extra-mural students who live far-away get
consultations by mail. They write their control and course papers and send them to
the University. Teachers test the students knowledge by checking the papers. They
make their notes, correct mistakes and return every paper with a written review.
During the examination session students attend lectures on the main topics of the
subject, get practical training in laboratories. Then they go in for exams. During the
examination sessions all part - time and correspondence students get paid leaves.
After all the exams and tests have been passed students are given a diploma
project which they publicly defend before the State Examination Committee and
after it graduates are granted diplomas. Graduates of our University work at research
institutes, designing departments and enterprises all over Russia.
