Questions to the text
1. What is the Spinlab 900 HVI System?
2. What important properties of textile fibers can it test ( measure )?
3. What is its efficiency?
4. What parameters can the 900 System measure to test man-made fibers?
5. How many operators does the 900 System require to test seven important properties of
textile fibers?
The 900 System : Measurements with Impact
Machinery Adjustment
Since the Fibrograph simulates the arrangement of fibers in the draft zones, it
measures the actual fiber segment length which extends into drafting. This information
guides spinners in adjusting draw frame, card and comber machinery settings. The
ultimate result of such fine adjustment increases operating efficiency and predictable yarn
quality.
Fiber Research
The 900 System’s speed and accuracy in testing enable a researcher to determine the
characteristics of all types of fiber. Development and improvement of natural fiber, man-
made fiber and blends may be conducted successfully because 900 System tests large
numbers of samples objectively and provides detailed results.
Measurements
The 900 System measures all seven critical parameters defined by the USDA in a
proposed cotton marketing system. These parameters - fiber length, length uniformity,
strength, elongation, micronaire, trash and color - account for 86% of the known variation
in the spinning performance of cotton.
Length and Length Uniformity
Depending on the choice of calibration cottons, span lengths or the USDA HVI
lengths and their associated uniformities are determined optically by the Fibrograph.
