Ex. 1. Practice the reading of the following words:
euro, further, double-deck, supply, medium-distance, dual-mode, articulated,
throughout.

memorize their meanings.
Word-box:
a double deck coach (train) – двухэтажный вагон (поезд);
medium-distance services – перевозки на средние расстояния;
a diesel-multiple unit (dmu) – дизель-поезд;

Ex. 3. The words last, latest, final are rather often mixed up because a
non-native speaker of English finds it difficult to see any difference in their

latest – the most recent (the latest news);
final – last in a series of actions, events, parts of a story (the final episode
of the film).

PLACES HUGE TRAIN ORDERS
French National Railways (SNCF) has awarded a Euros 1.65 billion contract to
Bombardier Transportation for a fleet of 500 high-capacity TER regional express trains.
SNCF has also ordered further 18 TGV Duplex double-deck high-speed trains from
Alstom and Bombardier Transportation.
Bombardier Transportation is to supply the TER trains, which are intended for
