6. The amount of oil the pump delivers to the engine is controlled by a governor-the
particular type of control depends upon the pump design. On some, the pump stroke
is varied to control the oil charge, on others a by pass valve allows part of the oil to
flow back into the pump suction line.
7. The spray valve may have a spring-loaded differential needle which is lifted by the
oil pressure as soon as the pump starts its delivery stroke. The fuel valve may also
contain only a light check valve to prevent the cylinder gases passing through the
valve; this is called an “open” nozzle.
Exercises
I. Переведите письменно 2 и 5-й абзацы текста.
II. Переведите предложения, обращая внимание на видовременные формы
глагола, функцию инфинитива и причастия.
1. Combustion continues until the entire fuel charge has been burned.
2. Diesel designers have developed a multitude of injection designs.
3. To ensure thorough mixing of fuel and air a multitude of fuel injection systems
has been developed.
4. Each cylinder has its own fuel injection pump connected to the spray nozzle.
5. The pipeline is kept filled with oil.
6. The oil acts upon the surface created by the design of the spray valve people.
III. Исправьте предложения, которые искажают смысл текста.
Запишите предложения в исправленном виде, переведите их.
1. In an internal-combustion engine the combustion process is very simple.
2. A charge of fuel is mixed with the air and ignited in the engine cylinder.
3. Mixing of the fuel and air and combustion of the mixture must take place when
the piston starts on its exhaust stroke.
4. Diesel designers have developed a multitude of injection designs.
5. The air-injection system is widely applied to new Diesels at present.
6. The amount of oil the pump delivers to the engine is controlled by a connecting
rod.
