Перейдем к анализу наиболее интересных особеннос
тей индивидуального стиля Д. Г. Лоуренса, связанных с
выразительной стороной репрезентации эмотивных кон
цептов и ситуаций. Эти особенности касаются в первую
очередь метафоры и образных сравнений. Рассмотрим сле
дующие примеры:
«For the Lord’s sake don’t get ill, or I shall feel as if I
heard the props of the earth cracking» (D. H. L., 56).
«If you but knew the thunderstorms of tragedy that had
played over my wretched head, as if I was set up on God’s
earth for a lightning conductor, you’d say, «Thank God I’m
not as that poor man» (D. H. L., 62).
«Perhaps when we’ve all had a ducklng in the sea of
terrible disaster, we shall be more wholesome and truthful»
(D. H. L., 110).
«I feel myself awfully like a fox that is cornered by a pack
of hounds and boors who don’t perhaps know he’s there but
are closing in unconsciously» (D. H. L., 111).
«Being at sea is so queer – it sort of dissolves for the time
being all the connections with the land, and one feels a bit
like a seabird must feel» (D. H. L., 138).
Как видим, в метафорах и образных сравнениях про
слеживается та же универсальность и глобальность в отра
жении своего чувственного опыта, которую мы отметили в
употреблении Лоуренсом типичных эмотивных фраз. В ос
нове метафорических концептов страдания, несчастья и
свободы (последнее предложение) прослеживается связь с
землей, морскими просторами, с небом. В этой ощутимой
