Широко используются в текстах мемуаров также
эмотивные вкрапления в позиции зависимых членов пред
ложения, преимущественно выраженных предложно
именными сочетаниями или наречиями, которые обычно
указывают на эмоциональное состояние, сопутствующее
действию, и используются как в ситуациях с субъектом
состоянияавтором, так и с третьими лицами:
«At our third and last encounter (there still remained bits
of him I wanted to file for possible use) he related to me,
more in sorrow than in anger, that he had once spent a whole
night patiently watching a good friend of his who had
decided to shoot himself ...» (V. N., 279).
«Thus, the college period of my life began on a note of
embarrassment, a note that was to recur rather persistently
during my three years of residence» (V. N., 259).
Нередко используются конструкции, в которых реали
зуется значение перехода из одного состояния субъекта в
другое: «The pang of seeing him carried downstairs was lost
in my general misery» (V. N.,189).
Для репрезентации эмоционального состояния третьих
лиц, а также состояний, испытываемых автором и третьи
ми лицами, тоже характерен акцент на итеративности, или
повторяемости чувства, как в следующих предложениях:
«It seemed at times that we ignored them the way an
arrogant or very stupid invader ignores a formless or
faceless mass of natives; but occasionally, quite often in
fact, the spectral world through which we serenely paraded
our sores and our arts would produce a kind of awful
convulsion and show us who was the discarnate captive and
who the true lord» (V. N., 276).
«Its holder was little better than a criminal on parole and
had to go through most hideous ordeals every time he wished
