Katrin is a foreign student. She is from Germany. Now she lives in Russia and studies at Technical University at the preparatory
faculty. She lives in the student hostel. Students’ life is not very easy, but interesting. Katrin has many friends. They study and rest
together. Of course, they should make breakfast, dinner, supper, do the room and kitchen, wash clothes, wash up, go shopping. At
home, at her native place, Katrin did all the house work too: she cleaned the floor, sometimes she cooked dinner, sewed, washed her
clothes. But at home her mother did the main part of the house work and Katrin helped her. But now she has to do all the work by
herself. It is difficult, but interesting, because now Katrin feels as independent person. She understands that she should learn well, she
should learn much and hard.

Yesterday it was Sunday. Phil wasn’t at the faculty, because on Sunday students don’t study.
Do you think that they study on Sunday? Unfortunately not: they have much work.
In the morning Phil got up at 9 o’clock. He dressed quickly, washed his face and hands and began to do his room: cleaned the
floor, dusted, made his bed. Then Phil cooked dinner. He has been cooking dinner for two hours. He has cooked soup, meat and vege-
tables. Phil was waiting for his guests and he wanted to make delicious dinner to treat them.
After that Phil had a rest a little and began to do his hometask. He has been doing his task for four hours. For half an hour he
has been reading, for half an hour he has been learning new words, for an hour he has been writing exercises and dialogues, for half
an hour he was listening to the tape-recorder and for an hour he has been learning Mathematics. Phil was tired a little, but he has
learnt all the material well, he has revised all the words, has read the text, dialogues, has done all the sums. Phil was glad that he has
done all his hometask well.
In the evening Phil and his friend were having a rest. The friends said that dinner was very tasty. Then all danced, listened to
music, told funny stories.

I entered the bus, got a ticket and began getting ahead, as I had to go out in four stops near the library named after Pushkin. At
that moment I saw an acquaintance of mine. He was sitting near the window and was reading a newspaper. We greeted each other
and joined the conversation. During the stops people entered and went out.
The place next to my friend has got free. But I did not want to take a seat and went on standing.
– You won’t sit down, will you? – a man asked me.
– No, I shan’t! – I answered. – I am getting out soon. Sit down, please.
When one stop was left till the library, I asked the acquaintance of mine where he was going out.
– I’ll go out at the Chemist’s Shop – he said. – I need to buy some medicine.
– Then, see you later. I am going out at the next stop.
A woman was standing near the door.
– Are you going out now? – I asked her.
– Yes, I am, – she said.
– Are you going out near the library? – I heard at that moment.
– Yes, I am going out.
The bus stopped. I waved my hand to my acquaintance and got out.

– Excuse me, would you tell me how to get to the University hostel?
It’s necessary to go by bus till the stop «The Market», change the bus 8 or trolleybus 6, reach the stop «The University» and
go down the street. On the left you will see several many-storeyed buildings. These are the buildings of the University.
