Текст 4. Paint Technology

Paint technology is a complex subject involving a very exact balance of a wide

variety of ingredients in paint formulation to suit each specific application. What is

common, however, to all the vast range of paints available today is the need to dry out

the paint effectively once it is applied. It is here that gas firing is being increasingly

used.

There are other finishes such as varnish and lacquer

used in industry. These are made from resin, which is

usually dissolved in an oil or spirit, and other substances

can be added to assist spreading etc. Pigment can also be

added, although a clear finish is often required.

We are all familiar with ordinary domestic paints.

They are left to dry by natural means, such as oxidation

(air drying), assisted purely by chance, by any natural heat and the atmospheric

conditions prevailing at the time.
