1.3. ОБОРОТ THERE + TO BE
В обороте there + to be слово there является формальным подлежащим, и оно не
переводится. Глагол to be вместе с there или совсем не переводится, или его следует
переводить словами «существовать», «иметься», «находиться» и начинать предложение надо с
этих слов.
e.g. There is a new method of treatment.
Существует новый метод лечения.
Иногда в обороте there + to be перед глаголом может стоять модальный глагол, а также
вместо глагола to be употребляются такие глаголы, как to appear, to exist, to result, to observe
и т.д.
Упражнение 1. Проанализируйте и переведите предложения.
1. There is excessive bulk of denture material in the mouth leading to difficulty in speech and
mastication.
2. There are vast differences in dental caries prevalence from country to country and the disease
has different trends.
3. Where there has been extensive loss of both hard and soft tissues, the treatment may well
extend over years.
4. To say there is an association between two things simply means that they occur together in a
certain situation.
5. Is there a risk of herpes virus 8 (HHV-8) transmission by blood transfusion?
6. Often the upper anterior teeth are set directly over the crest of the ridge. In this position there is
restriction of the tongue which then displaces the denture in a forward direction.
7. There was a significant difference in favor of the vitamin D group for erupting permanent teeth,
but not for teeth already erupted.
8. There has been a shift away from cleaning surfaces to be sealed after the publication of results
indicating that sealant retention was unaffected by the procedure.
9. The utilization of glass ionomers as fissure sealant materials is beginning to produce good
results in terms of retention of material and there have been encouraging results on caries inhibition.
