1.8.10. ГЕРУНДИЙ
Герундий (Gerund) является неличной формой глагола, выражает название действия и
обладает как свойствами глагола, так и свойствами существительного. Образуется от
инфинитива без частицы to прибавлением окончания –ing. В русском языке соответствующая
категория отсутствует.
Название «герундий» произошло от латинского глагола “gerere” – действовать.
Посредством герундия выражается выполнение, совершение действия, его процесс:
− understanding – понимание;
− studying – изучение;
− testing – тестирование.
Герундий может иметь сложные формы:
− being tested (Indefinite Passive);
− having tested (Perfect Active);
− having been tested (Perfect Passive).
Герундий часто употребляется с предлогами, в этом проявляется его сходство с
существительным.
Как правило, герундий не представляет трудности для понимания и перевода, если
определить его функцию.
1.8.11. ФУНКЦИИ ГЕРУНДИЯ В ПРЕДЛОЖЕНИИ
Герундий может быть:
a) Подлежащим:

b) Именной частью составного сказуемого:
