   10. A much more serious type of allergy which could happen in dental practice is that affecting
patients sensitive to penicillin and its derivatives.

                                    1.12.   ЭМФАЗА (УСИЛЕНИЕ ЗНАЧЕНИЯ)
      Эмфатические конструкции используются для усиления отдельных членов предложения и
целых предложений, что в переводе также должно учитываться изменением порядка слов и т. д.
      Существуют разные способы усиления:
      a)        При помощи вспомогательного глагола to do.
      e.g. Such a change does actually occur.
      Такое изменение действительно происходит.
      b)        При помощи конструкций It is (was)           that, This is   which (who, where).
      e. g. It is by the end of this term that a possible reoperation may be considered.
      Только к концу этого периода можно думать о повторной операции.
      c)        При помощи сравнения as many (much) as, as few (little) as и др.
      e.g. As many as half the patients suffered from obesity.
      Более половины пациентов имели избыточный вес.
      d)        При помощи инверсии, когда какой-либо член предложения ставится на
необычное для него место.
      e.g. In only three cases was therapy discontinued.
      (ср. Therapy was discontinued in only three cases.)
      Только в трех случаях лечение было отменено.


      Упражнение 1. Проанализируйте и переведите предложения.
    1. The amount of radiation received from dental x-ray machines is as little as one twentieth of the
power of medical X-ray machines.
    2. Yet the benefits to be derived from necessary dental x-rays are far greater than the hazards.
    3. High-speed drills cause far less vibration and allow teeth to be prepared in only a few minutes.
