5. Under the heading ‘unsuccessful dentures’ will be considered those cases where both patient
and dentist agree on the failure of the existing dentures.

this case series, we noted eight cases in which this phenomenon occurred. Only one of these eight
patients underwent surgical intervention.
13. Antiviral prophylaxis therefore may well be indicated in immunocompromised patients.
14. There is a growing body of evidence concerning the incidence of root caries derived from
longitudinal studies of dental health amongst periodontally compromised patients and from studies of
community dwelling adults.
15. There is very little published information on the oral health in medically compromised children
and, for many of these conditions, it remains difficult to separate out the effects of treatment from
those of the condition itself, leukaemia being a classic example.
